There are only 2 reasons I'm not giving this restaurant 5 stars: it is LOUD, as restaurants without any kind of carpet or soft surfaces often are; and one dish I ordered was just a little off. First, the good. The service was absolutely stellar. We walked in without a reservation and were very casually dressed and were treated like rock stars. The service was perfectly attentive without hovering, and the dishes were delivered at just the right times. I liked the way the restaurant was decorated, and very much appreciated that they were willing to accommodate us ordering a bunch of small dishes to share. The Brussels sprout were good enough that I found myself studying them a bit to see if I could replicate them at home. The deviled eggs were good but not the best I've ever had. The shrimp and grits were disappointing, particularly because with the heads on, they became a bit difficult to manage and looked a bit unappetizing. My opinion may be skewed because I was just in Memphis and had shrimp and grits that I loved. But the dessert. THE DESSERT. OMG. They serve a chocolate pretzel bread pudding that is so dang delicious and inventive it's ridiculous. I loved, loved, loved it. We only left because as the restaurant filled up, we couldn't have a conversation. It is just how many restaurants are these days. I would happily go back!
Lunch was a delight and so was my server (who's name I can't remember) this is why I shouldn't leave my drafts unfinished for more than 24 hours.I digress, located in the beautiful Lafayette Sq. Neighborhood, Polite Society fits right in. Upon entry you'll be swept away by the gorgeous well-stocked bar. Making your way through the dining areas the exposed brick, filament lighting & rustic design are quite captivating. Lots of character here making it a great date night, lunch meeting spot. The food was plentiful & delicious as well. I enjoyed the mushrooms (although heavily battered) I simply peeled away the crust and devoured the core of my meal. Their beet salad was a great pairing item. Loved lunch but can't wait to return for an evening happy hour outing.
The best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had. We arrived on time for our reservation and was soon pretty soon thereafter. Service was professional, knowledgeable, and timely. Food was pretty good and comparative to the prices. I'd eat here again.
Nice little joint in Lafayette Square. Phenomenal burger, tasty wings, excellent cocktails... what more can I say? I had the steak and it came with a bearnaise type sauce on the side, I sensed truffle oil although it may have been on the fries. The couple with us also had the burger and his fiance had the risotto.... everyone ended up in the clean plate club. Service was great, facilities were clean. The wife and I will likely frequent this place. It was great!
This place rocks! We walked down for brunch on Sunday and were pleasantly surprised. The brunch is definitely as good as the lunch and dinner options, and the portion sizes left all of us stuffed and happy. Everyone was pleased with what we got. Expect a half hour wait for brunch on the weekends if you come in after 11am. Our waitress was attentive, super nice, and very accommodating. The eggs benedict was out of this world! Good mimosas, too.
