Best zoo I have been to, hands down! Cant beat that its free, either. They offer parking for $15, which isnt too terrible, but theres also plenty of free parking outside the zoo gates. The food is great, too! I had a pulled pork sandwich and fries for $11 and it was worth it. Drinks are a little pricey, but I asked for a water in a large drink sized cup and the lady gave it to me for free! I also love how informative the workers at the zoo are. I saw several outside the different animal exhibits explaining what the animals eat, how their typical day is, etc. will definitely be back!
Best zoo around hands down, especially for being free. It's beautifully decorated and I love seeing all the animals. My only complaint would be the price of water and soft drinks, it was 90+ degrees when I went and I had to settle on filling my water bottle with hot water since I didn't want to pay $4 for a bottle of water. However I did appreciate the water fans and the air conditioned buildings since it was so hot
Great place, and especially notable for being free to visit. (Though close parking isn't free, there's plenty of free side parking if you don't mind a walk) Friendly people, lots of extremely well designed enclosures, and plenty of toys in each one for the animals that need them. I've always loved the huge Cypress swamp/flight cage; the birds are calm and used to people walking nearby - great photo opportunities!Also, they constantly work on upgrading and improving something; I can't quite remember a time I've been there that something somewhere wasn't being worked on. Highly recommended!
It was a beautiful day.. I was told that this is the best Zoo in the US of A... Well I beg to differ... I was very disappointed in the commercialization of the Zoo... instead of more displays or animals.. there were more eating places and shops than animal display areas... I would understand a few ice cream and side kiosks spread around the park.. but full on restaurants all over the place. .. a gift/souvenir shop on every corner.. it just smacked of commercialism... there were hardly any animals to see... Just one polar bear... I mean how many out there that need rescue.. a few monkeys etc.. just did not make me think it was the best Zoo in USA.. Sorry guys.. I know funds are needed and zoos cost money.. but keep the souvenir shop at the exit. .. maybe charge a small fee.. if needed.. but get rid of those stalls.. and show real animals.... instead of stuffed toys.. Just my take...
Amazing grounds, well kept, and best of all...it's FREE! I don't know how they do it, but they do it well! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, animals are close up and active (especially in the horrible heat), and the zoo provides wonderful misting stations for guests. Parking was easy and fairly close and did I mention all this wonderful entertainment is FREE?! You will want to take some time in the large gift shop as they have something for everyone at very reasonable prices. You won't feel bad about making a purchase because you saved so much on admission. They do provide wheelchair and scooter rentals for a small fee and the 'food court' was surprisingly good but a bit on the pricey side but again, think of the money saved on admission. Definitely worth the time and a good way to spend the day around Forest Park.
