As an art history major about to enter graduate school the Art Museum was a great place to start learning about art. I love their displays and the new Egyptian center is GREAT with the interactive display. I took off a star because they dont offer paid internships and they also have very few contemporary sculptures around the facility. I would love to see more recent sculptures!!
Fantastic museum and it's even free (though thankfully they accept donations at the door). I've been many times over the years and I've never managed to get through a fraction of the place in a visit, there's just so much to see. The gift shop is a little pricey but that's to be expected when they don't have ticket sales to rely on. I still found some interesting souvenirs, it's just something to keep in mind if you might be going in with kids.I wish I still lived locally and could take advantage of the cool programs they offer. Definitely check them out on the website!
Such a wonderful place to enjoy the day. So much to learn and always something interesting going on. You can spend hours at this museum and learn something new each time you come back. Great place to relax or even take the kids for a bit of history. It will stir your curiosity and you will enjoy every moment you spend here!
This is a great place to see famous statues and paintings- for free! This is a large 3 floor museum with a lot of display rooms where you can see from phenomenal portraits and other paintings, to modern art. Wood carved statues, to giant Egyptian rock statues found underwater. The only paid things here are the paid parking(the free parking is usually full) the gift shop, and the restaurant. The paid exhibits are only events with a video showing how they retrieved some famous statues not much else. It is a large place so there is a lot of walking. Be warned.
As free museums go, this one is exceptional. It feels like it is on par with the Art Institute of Chicago on a smaller scale. Special exhibits can be seen for an additional fee, though general admission is free. Enough art here to be enjoyed through several hours of wandering and contemplation. Particularly enjoyed the samples of furniture designed by the likes of Tiffany and Co. to Frank Lloyd Wright. Information placards in each section provide enlightening detail about each artwork that enhances the experience. Gorgeously situated in Forest Park with panoramic views of the surrounding park.
